San Diego, CA – October 6, 2014 – The San Diego International Airport today launched its new website, www.san.org. The website, conceived and designed by brand communications agency Jacob Tyler, reflects the modernization and local flare of the airport after the completion of its $1 billion “green build” expansion.
“The new airport represents a rethinking of traditional norms,” said Jon Graves, Senior Manager of Marketing & PR for the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority (SDCAA). “The airport just added 10 new gates, modern curbside check-in facilities, 85 new shops and restaurants, and is home to the world’s first LEED Platinum certified commercial airport terminal” said Jon Graves, Senior Manager of Marketing & PR for the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority. “One of our highest priorities is to continually elevate the customer experience. We wanted the website to reflect that, and the Jacob Tyler design really hit the mark.”
Working collaboratively with the SDCAA and other stakeholders, Jacob Tyler created an intuitive, modern design featuring real-time flight information, dining and shopping options, an interactive map, educational information and games for kids – and even an online exhibition of the airport’s art program. The site employs a responsive design, allowing travelers to utilize it on mobile devices while at the airport.
“We viewed the website as an extension of the airport itself – a part of its ecosystem,” said Les Kollegian, Jacob Tyler CEO. “More than just a visual representation of the airport, the site is an interactive tool that enhances the traveler’s experience.”
In order to meld the virtual and brick and mortar worlds of the airport, the Jacob Tyler team chose a color palette matching the airport’s art. “We wanted to create a seamless experience,” said Jacob Tyler Creative Director Michelle Peck. “The airport’s art installations really inform its environment, and we wanted to carry that over to the website,” she said. “The different sections of the site, as well as the interactive map, feature the same color palette you see in the airport itself.”
