Jacob Tyler CEO Les Kollegian takes on role as adjunct professor at The Art Institute of San Diego

San Diego, January 10, 2013 – The Art Institute of San Diego welcomes Jacob Tyler CEO Les Kollegian as the new adjunct professor in Advertising Studies. Kollegian is honored to join the faculty and pass along his knowledge on an educational platform.

In the Introduction to Advertising Campaigns course, Kollegian will be teaching students how to execute ad strategy, messaging, and concepts to develop marketable campaigns. To do so, he will be using “real-world” client situations and introduce students to the actual process that Jacob Tyler uses to develop marketing collateral. He hopes to inspire students to think beyond the curriculum.

Corey Willis and The School of Design extended an offer to Les after many glowing reports about ‘the guy’ from Jacob Tyler on studio visits and internships. Willis wanted to connect students to the Advertising Industry in innovative ways.

“After speaking with Les, his passion for mentoring young designers was apparent. This led me to think he would be a great pioneer in this new effort to invite highly accomplished professionals to give back through teaching as adjunct professors,” Willis said.

Kollegian received his Masters in Communications Design from the University of Baltimore and has over 18 years of experience designing marketing and ad campaigns, many of them developed in house at Jacob Tyler. While his experience and trained eye for design has contributed to his success in advertising, he attributes his education for giving him the tools and foundation to grow in the industry.

Kollegian’s passion for advertising and creativity will be evident in the classroom even down to the syllabus, which he comments will be in a less traditional format and not entirely by the ‘book’.

“I take a unique approach to most endeavors in life and my classroom will be no different. My class will be hands on and engaging. I want to create as much of a real life environment as possible,” Kollegian said. “I want to give my students real world exposure so they are properly trained for the corporate creative world.”

Willis is confident Kollegian will help shape this new class of Advertising and Graphic Design students with his years of experience and design talent.

“Many people talk about making a difference in the design community, Les and Jacob Tyler have authentically done so,” Willis said. “By shaping and molding young minds, Les will inspire not only his class and school but hopefully others in the field to give back by doing the same.”

The syllabus is set, the students are registered, and Kollegian has big goals set for the semester.

“Students tend to focus solely on creative when creating advertising campaigns. That is obviously important but my goal is to instill additional core values of advertising which I believe are, the importance of urgency, research, teamwork and the value of relationships,” Kollegian said. “Especially the importance of relationships, not only with clients but with mentors… I wouldn’t be here today without those who have helped me along the way. And, I’m excited to pay it forward.”
